This block selection from the estate vineyard is planted to the old Pommard clone. It’s an elegantly dry wine, dense in black and red cherry fruit, with hints of cola, wild herbs and spices. This block-grown Pinot from the estate vineyard, in the heart of the cool Green Valley, shows the signature Marimar style of tight acidity, dryness, silky elegance and red fruit. It’s not a big, fat, blockbuster Pinot, but a leaner, more masculine style. The raspberry, cherry, red currant and sandalwood flavors should hold up well to the aging process. Reminiscent of the 2003, this low-production wine, which comes from a block in the estate vineyard, is complex in flavor. Cherries, currants, pomegranates and rhubarb vie with earthier notes of tomatoes and herbs to craft a wine that changes with each sip. The new oak gives smoky wood accents. This is Marimar’s reserve-style Pinot. The ’04, like the ’03, shows authoritative structure in the fine tannins and acids that frame wonderfully ripe fruit. It’s a complex, grippy young wine, elaborately gorgeous in blackberry pie, cherry tart, blueberry, cola and vanilla spice flavors, with an earthy undertow of balsamic-dashed heirloom tomato.
