The 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Vigna Garzon is born in a vineyard located 450 meters above sea level planted to Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Croatina and other indigenous grapes. This wine is especially intense and expressive with articulate tones of spice, dried fruit, dried terracotta and grilled herb that lift elegantly from the glass. There's a tangy sweet oak flavor that needs to soften with a few more years of bottle aging. Drink 2015-2023.
The Pieropan family makes impossibly delicious Soave Classicos and has set the benchmark for today-s Soave Revival. I can-t think of another Italian region that has reinvented itself so successfully. Sadly, my favorite wines - the Soave Classico Calvarino and the Recioto Le Colombare - did not make it in time for my tasting so I'll need to add those reviews later.
