The 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece is a super robust and powerful wine with an inky dark and impenetrable appearance. The wine is packed tight with thick fruit, alcohol (measuring 16.5%), rich extract and all sorts of mature fruit flavors, aromas and textural material. This is the proverbial too-much-of-a-good-thing.

The 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece comes from a classic tradition and from a vintage that shows richness, generosity and exuberance. The blend is mostly Corvina and Corvinone (80% of the blend) with smaller parts Dindarella, Rondinella and Oseleta. The wine is made with five months of appassimento and provides a medium level of sweetness that adds to the volume and richness of the mouthfeel. The high 16.5% alcohol drives a powerful finish. This full-bodied Amarone with rich and dark concentration ages in barrique for 32 months, and you get plenty of spice and toasted smoke as a result. This is a very happy, fruit-filled vintage and the most robust wine in this flight. Serve it with braised meats. Only 5,000 bottles were made.

Silky tannins firm this medium- to full-bodied red, which offers flavors of black cherry coulis and pomegranate fruit, with accents of baking spice, loamy earth and Mandarin orange peel. A touch of heat shows on the finish. Drink now through 2021.
