The 2007 Barbaresco Reyna is a beautiful entry-level Barbaresco with lovely density in its ripe, red fruit and a long, polished finish. Berries, spices, French oak and tar add complexity as the Reyna sits in the glass, but this is ultimately a forward, juicy Barbaresco to enjoy while the fruit remains vibrant. Ideally the Reyna is opened at least an hour in advance, which will allow the tannins to soften together. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017.
This is a strong set of new releases from Michele Chiarlo. I found that the Barbareschi and Baroli needed several hours of air to come together, so readers are advised to open these wines well in advance.
